Beagles:

Description:

 

Beagles are top scent dogs along with Bloodhound. Beagles in general resemble English FoxHounds in appearance but in a smaller form. They are sturdier and compact looking different from Foxhound. The nose is black in color, ears are down, turning slightly towards the cheek. The tail is curl up slightly. The coat is smooth and hard, generally tricolour .When puppy Beagle is born, they only have 2 colors, white and black but when they grow mature, the black marking will fade and brown marking will slowly appear.

Height: Dogs 14-16 inches . Bitches 13-15 inches.

Weight: Dogs 22-25 pounds .Bitches 20-23 pounds

Breed Appearance:
The general appearance of the Beagle resembles a Foxhound in miniature, but the head is broader and the muzzle shorter, the expression completely different and the legs shorter in proportion to the body.

Behavior:
According to his standard, the Beagle is a merry, brave dog who is highly active, energetic, and determined. He is quick, intelligent, and even-tempered. He is also courageous, hardy, and very fast, with a hard-hitting voice and a keen nose. He can work alone, in pairs, or in packs. This small, versatile pack hound hunts hare, rabbit, fox, deer, and wild boar. Affectionate and good-natured, he is a great family pet.

Temprament:

Beagles are intelligient breed, but with a mind of their own. They are breed with tenacity and single minded to track down the prey, thus might be hard to train. They are friendly around people, sometimes might be aloof with strangers but easily won over. Beagle has loud and powerful voice used during hunting after track down the prey. The characteristic of bark and howl when facing the unfamilar make they relatively good watchdog. Excellent with children and other dog breeds. Beagles have strong pack instinct; well socialize within your family with enough companionship is essential.

Grooming:

The Beagle's smooth short haired coat is easy to look after. Brush with a firm bristle brush, and bathe with mild soap only when necessary. Dry shampoo occasionally.  Be sure to check the ears carefully for signs of infection and keep the nails trimmed. This breed is an average shedder.

 

Health:

Some lines can be prone to epilepsy, heart disease, eye and back problems. Also prone to chondroplasia.

Living Conditions:

Beagles will do well in an apartment if they get plenty of chances to be outdoors. They are very active indoors and a small yard will be sufficient.
